YouTube Videos – Enhancing your Website

One of the questions we get asked most frequently when designing a new website for someone is whether or not they should include video. The answer around our office is always a resounding, “YES!” People always say that if a picture can say 1,000 words, then a video can say double that. It’s just that often people don’t find themselves “tech savvy” enough to warrant incorporating video. The fact of the matter is having a YouTube channel has become just as vital to your business as Facebook or Twitter. Having these accounts matters more than you think and it’s important to take into consideration how they could help your business.

Just last month, YouTube hit one billion monthly users. That’s right, one BILLION. YouTube is now up in the ranks with Facebook, having surpassed Twitter, who boasts a respectable 200 million monthly users. YouTube was founded in 2005, and has continued to steadily climb as a powerhouse in the social media world. Can you even imagine a life without YouTube? Even if you’re not a frequent user, chances are you’ve searched for something on there, or been recommended by a friend to watch a video of some fat cat that’s gone viral. I mean, even YouTube itself states that if it were a country, it would be the third largest in the world after China and India. That’s a pretty impressive feat right there.

With numbers like that, it’s no wonder we encourage clients to embrace such technology. We live in a fast paced, technology driven world and staying current is a must for your business. You lose valuable customers by not meeting the demands of what society wants today. You wouldn’t want to have a website with a design from 1990, so you want to make sure that your social media and marketing is up to date as well. YouTube can be a great tool to get the word out on your business and it allows you to capture things quickly. They don’t have to be lengthy videos, it’s better to keep them short in order to keep your customers engaged. People like to receive information quickly. They want information right at their fingertips and YouTube can be a great source for that.

Especially now that people can watch videos from their smartphones, the fascination with YouTube has only become greater. People can literally watch a video wherever they are at any given moment. An iPhone already comes with an app on the screen when you purchase it, making YouTube virtually unavoidable.

The bottom line is that video is not going away any time soon and it would bode well for your business to learn to adapt. It’s an important piece of the puzzle to ensuring that your company evolves with the times. 10-15 years ago, most companies probably didn’t see a huge need for a website and look how that turned out. Today the most common way to find out about a business is to search for their website. It’s an easy, go to spot to learn everything you need to know. Also years ago, when people didn’t have the technology to make videos for that website, we have evolved and you can now simply make a video with your phone and upload it to the web. Times have changed and in order to stay relevant it’s best to embrace the powers of social media.
