Using Video to Advance your Business

YouTube is having a huge impact on the marketing strategies for businesses. Since its introduction in 2006, the use of YouTube has steadily been on the rise. When a business owner is thinking of the best way to reach the most people, videos and YouTube should not be overlooked. A picture may say 1,000 words, but a video can say 10 times that.

When incorporating video into your website, you give readers an inside look into what is going on within your company. You also increase the “personalization of your message”.  Video can be a public forum for people to gain access to you.

YouTube’s ability to reach an extremely wide and diverse audience is a valuable asset. Think about any video you’ve seen that has gone “viral.” Most likely it was a video put up by someone who hoped to get a few hits, but instead the video caught like wildfire. It is the best word of mouth marketing out there.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a viral video their first time out the gate, but it helps to stay consistent. Build up your following by posting frequent, thought provoking content. Give viewers a behind the scenes look of something they maybe wouldn’t expect. It is a cheap way to get a leg up on your competition.

Another reason more people are turning to YouTube are for placement search related reasons. Say you were to Google a specific product, often your first results page will include videos related to that product. Therefore, if you create an effective video using the proper Search Engine Optimization techniques, your product will appear higher on a search engine search, directing more people to your site.

You want your video to be effective, and in order to do that it needs to be professional. Now while it doesn’t have to look like a Spielberg film, the video should still have cohesive content, good lighting, and clear sound. The quality of the video matters, as no one is going to take your company seriously if the content is not up to par.  There are many portable video cameras – and even phones – that will suffice to give you a good looking video.

As people become more interested in your product, they will be even more interested in seeing it in motion. Videos can help drive traffic to your site, and promote whatever message you are sending. While you may think it just enough to have photos on your website, it is crucial to think about the extra ground you could cover with incorporating video.
