Using Website Marketing to Advance your Business

You completed the first step of getting your website off the ground, but now what?

The website is launched, but how do you get people to visit it?

The answer is simple: marketing.

Too often people think that the website will do the work for them, but sites require constant upkeep and tweaking.

To get traffic to your site, you will need to market it. One of the best ways to do this is to make sure that your SEO (search engine optimization) is in order. The higher you rank on Google, Yahoo or Bing , the better chance your site has of getting noticed. To succeed in doing this, you need to make sure that your content is filled with the necessary keywords that are going to bring people to your site. Say for instance, you own a bakery in Las Vegas. You must make sure that the words Las Vegas, bakery, breads, cookies, cupcakes (whatever it is you sell) are prominently placed within your text. Think about the words someone would type into a search engine if they were looking for a bakery in the area and use those as your keywords.

Another important factor to keep in mind is the use of social media.  In a world of Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare (among other social media platforms) to have a successful website, these portals must be embraced. If you want to market your brand to a broad audience the best thing is to gain exposure. By putting your name out there and keeping your accounts updated, you can let the internet do a hefty portion of your marketing for you. The more people that see your Facebook or Twitter page, the more likely they will be to visit your website and inquire more about your business.

It is also helpful to include a blog on your website. Often people do not want to read through pages of information or a PDF file to find what they are looking for. Blogs are meant to be short, consolidated pieces. They are a great medium to get one’s thoughts across as well as a way to encourage reader comments. People love to give feedback, and blogs enable them to do so.  If people find a blog they like or relate to, they will continue to return to your site. By keeping posts updated and your readers engaged, blog writing is another great marketing tool to drive website traffic.

So what marketing strategies do you use for your business, and have they helped?
