How is SEO helping your Business?

The need for search engine optimization, or (SEO) has increased immensely within the last few years. More and more, businesses are realizing just how important it is that their website gets a high ranking on search engines. The higher your ranking, the more people who see your website, and the more business you bring in. With that said, too often people just hire people to do SEO for them without knowing what that person, or agency is actually going to do.

We are going to look at how to determine whether your SEO agency is doing a good job, and what factors contribute to that. It is important to be aware of your agency’s tactics and if they are using poor tactics, the negative way in which it can affect your presence in a search engine index.

SEO Methods Need to be Clear

If you are paying a substantial amount of money frequently for a service, then you need to know what you’re paying for. Say for instance, your agency uses proprietary technology as a tool to identify bloggers for outreach projects; they should be able to explain this process to you without disclosing that proprietary element. If you are still unclear on certain methods then schedule a time to meet with your agency every week. Have them rundown with you what exactly they’re doing and communicate your thoughts and concerns with them.

Learning the SEO Language

SEO is full of abbreviations and technical terms, which a layman isn’t necessarily going to understand. SEO much like any other profession has its own language that unless you have studied, may be difficult to grasp.  While your SEO agency should use whatever technical language is required to describe the work they are doing for you, they should also regularly check to make sure you understand what they are saying.  Do not let an agency bully you out of asking questions if you don’t understand something with their technical talk. A good agency will break it all down and explain step by step what they are doing.

Proof of Work

If part of your SEO agency’s task is to increase links to your website, then they should be:
•    Thorough on how they do this, including making you aware if any tactic is outside search engine guidelines
•    Able to explain how they have succeeded in securing links

Keep in mind that if your SEO agency refuses to provide proof of links placed, yet expects you to still pay them, it might be time to take your business elsewhere.
