What is Google Analytics and why is it important?
Google Analytics is a free program from Google that allows you to track information about the visitors that come to your website. You achieve this by attaching a small bit of source code at the bottom of your page. This code “reports” to the analytics program who is at your website and what they look like. Think of it as your “website doorman”.
It will report to you where people are coming from, what browswer they are using, what their screen resolution is, what pages they visit, and for how long they are on each page. This information is extremely valuable for a website owner. It can help you and your designer to create a more effective website experience for your visitors. Having this information in the hands of a good analysts can drive more traffic to your business and convert them.
If you have an e-Commerce website, analytics can be made to establish goals. With a good designer, you can improve your purchase path to close more sales.
There are other website analytic programs, but we have found that Google Analytics is the most robust and easily implemented solution. It also does a good job of filtering out false traffic information that tends to inflate numbers. It’s also the easiest version for normal people to understand, and if you want to get nerdy with it, you can.
